A special visitor!

This morning Mrs Edge came to school with her very special pet...a baby turtle!  Mrs Edge told us that the turtle, (named Peewee) hatched from an egg.  It's mother Myrtle, laid some eggs in the ground and Mrs Edge put them in a special tank so they would keep warm and survive.  The eggs can take between 79 and 80 days to hatch. We learnt that this type of turtle is called a Red Ear turtle.  It is a slider which means that if it is crawling up something, it slides back down when it senses danger.  This type of turtle can live to 70 years!  Mrs Edge let us all hold Peewee.  Thank you very much Mrs Edge, it was fascinating to learn all about the turtle and get to hold it!  We wrote stories about it too.  What can your child tell you about our turtle visit?

Mrs Edge put special water in the tray before she put the turtle in.

There was also special pond weed for it to eat.

Look how tiny it is!
