Visiting Author

Today we were lucky to be visited by Josh James and his family, Kristen, Jack, Charlie and Sonny Jim. Josh and Jack have written a book, 'Jack and Charlie, boys of the bush'.  This book won the Elsie Locke award for childrens' non-fiction at the New Zealand Book Awards last week.
We asked them lots of questions and Josh read us part of the book.

Josh has a Facebook page and YouTube channel. Google 'Josh James Kiwi Bushman' where there is also a link to buy their book. Thanks for visiting our school, we enjoyed it!

Goodbye Amelia

We farewelled Amelia as she returned to her home in Japan. One of the last things she showed us was how to make origami dogs for letter Dd.  We will really miss you Amelia and hope to see you again next time you are in New Zealand.

Discovery

This week we had a very large box to create with.  Children voted to turn it into a bus.  They put the chairs in and took turns making tickets, waiting at the bus stop and then going for a ride.  There was even a booking office to take phone enquiries!

Bernard Mangakahia, Mana - The Spirit of Polynesia

On Tuesday we attended a performance by Bernard Mangakahia.  We all enjoyed this immensly, it was an exciting and inspiring show. There was much laughter as the audience participated in the dances and our eyes widened as Bernard performed a hoop dance with 7 hoops!  I suggest you google him and watch some of his clips on YouTube.  This was one of the best shows I have ever seen!
