Clever Readers

Rihanna and Carey are busy reading after play, well done!

Balancing

We can use the obstacle course to demonstrate our balancing skills.

Wacko Kakapo

We read the New Zealand book, Wacko Kakapo by Yvonne Morrison.  Then we used the internet to find some pictures and videos of Kakapo.  We were able to hear the booming noise they make.  We learnt they were nocturnal parrots that cannot fly.  They are special to our country.

Pathway

Rooms 1 and 2 with Mrs Sara and Miss Rout have worked really hard on the pathway outside their room.  They have designed seating and Koru patterns on the path.  It looks great!
Room 6 were quick to identify the Koru patterns as a result of working on a Koru art unit.

Daffodil Day

Tomorrow is Daffodil Day and we can come to school wearing yellow clothes.  Please bring a gold coin for the Cancer Society, thank you.

Walk for Books

Today we took home our sponsorship forms for the upcoming Walk for Books.  Our class will walk 3km and the walk is on 8 September.

Farewell

It is with sadness that we farewell Ella-Rose.  She has left Westport and we wish her well in her new school.  Ella-Rose, I will miss your great contributions to our discussions.  Good luck!

Koru Patterns

These are some of our "works in progress" and the comments these children made...

"I followed the instructions," said Conrad.

"I'm trying hard to colour in the lines," said Harrison.

"I'm trying to do my best work," said Jesse.

Jesse is a Shining Star

Jesse has made spectacular progress in his literacy learning, he has worked really hard at home on his alphabet letters and sight words!  Well done Jesse!

I also heard Jesse make a really nice comment at school to one of his classmates, he said "I am really proud of you."  This was a lovely comment Jesse and a nice thing to say to a friend, I know your parents are proud of YOU!

Harrison's comments...

"Look how much we are doing because we are working together!  We are doing teamwork, great helping Porsha, High Five!"

These are the comments Harrison made as he , Porsha and Conrad completed a puzzle together, nice going Harrison!

A special surprise...

Seth has been telling us about the puppies he has at home.  His favourite one is called Goldie.  Today Seth and his Mum had a special surprise for us, they brought the puppies for us to see!  We had a turn to hold them and pat them.  We thought they were just lovely!  Seth showed the puppies to Room 5 and Room 7/8 also.  Thank you Seth and Kylie, we loved seeing the puppies!

Sorting colours

These photos show Seth and Conrad sorting maths equipment by their colour.
Nice work!

Buddies

I spotted these two buddies sharing a book together at literacy time.  Jesse was looking and listening while Harrison showed him a non-fiction book.  They were having a lovely conversation about what was in the book.  Well done Harrison and Jesse.

Need anything at the shop?

We are so happy that New World is running the Mini Collectables promotion again, we love our little shop in Room 6.  We would welcome any spare collectables anyone has that they don't need, thanks!
