A special visitor!

This morning Mrs Edge came to school with her very special pet...a baby turtle!  Mrs Edge told us that the turtle, (named Peewee) hatched from an egg.  It's mother Myrtle, laid some eggs in the ground and Mrs Edge put them in a special tank so they would keep warm and survive.  The eggs can take between 79 and 80 days to hatch. We learnt that this type of turtle is called a Red Ear turtle.  It is a slider which means that if it is crawling up something, it slides back down when it senses danger.  This type of turtle can live to 70 years!  Mrs Edge let us all hold Peewee.  Thank you very much Mrs Edge, it was fascinating to learn all about the turtle and get to hold it!  We wrote stories about it too.  What can your child tell you about our turtle visit?

Mrs Edge put special water in the tray before she put the turtle in.

There was also special pond weed for it to eat.

Look how tiny it is!

Imaginative play

A group of children were playing 'Schoolteachers' this morning during literacy time.  I saw Amber aka Mrs Duston leading Aidyn aka Mr Hart, with Kaleb and Kai, in the alphabet.  They were reciting the letters and sounds.

Rainbow display

When we made rainbows, we discussed the colours that are in them and talked about Roy G. Biv.  Ask your child to name the seven colours of the rainbow.

R is for...Rainbows

Creativity is not tidy, but look at the results...

Days of the week

We learnt that there are 7 days of the week and they keep repeating just like the patterns we have been making!  We also found out that we go to school for 5 days and then have 2 days off.  There are some great 'days of the week' songs on YouTube which we sang also.

This is the link to the song we really liked!

Jigsaw puzzle

A joint effort by a group of boys enabled them to complete this puzzle.
Kaleb and Kaiza are pictured with the finished product!

Making new words out of words we know

We made some words that rhyme with at -
cat, sat, rat, mat, pat, hat.
This helps children make links between known and unknown words while reading and writing.
