Safe Walking

Constable Jos came and talked to us about 'Safe Walking'.  Some of the things we learnt were:
Where to walk on the footpath - walk on the side closest to the houses, bushes etc not near the road.
We should be with an adult or responsible older person when we cross the road.
Use a pedestrian crossing if there is one available.
Take one step back from the kerb, look left, right, left again and listen for traffic.
Cross when it is safe, walk smartly don't run!
Check the road again when you are halfway across.
Watch out for driveways, especially SNEAKY DRIVEWAYS!
We practised walking around the block with some big buddies helping.

When we got back to school, Constable Jos showed us some things in his police car AND he turned on the siren (but we had to block our ears!)

Then we learnt a poem:
Stop, look and listen

Stop, look and listen
Before you cross the street.
Use your eyes, use your ears
Before you use your feet.
