Reading at school

When your child starts school, they usually read at the emergent level which we call Magenta.  These are some of the things we focus on in the reading lesson - 

Pointing to the first word

Reading left to right

Pointing and matching the words as they say them

Looking at the picture for clues

Saying the first sound of the word

Expecting their reading to sound right

Reading at home with your child gives them a chance to practise these skills and build up their 'reading mileage.'
