N is for nest

Look what Sam brought to school to show us - a nest!

Nest starts with our letter of the week - N.
Sam told us that he thinks this might be a fantails nest because it is for a very small bird.

We could see what the nest was made from, including the horse hair from Sam's pet ponies!
Thank you for showing us your nest Sam!

Get well

Poor Toutouwai!  He has broken his arm!  He had to be very brave to get it fixed.
We hope you feel better soon Toutouwai!

Olympic Visitor

This morning, Westport South School had the huge privilege of hosting Joseph Sullivan, Gold Medal winner from the 2012 Olympics.  Joe and his rowing partner Nathan Cohen won the Men's Double Sculls.  It is worth googling this race to see, it was amazing!  Joe is an Olympic Ambassador and firefighter!

Joe talked to us about how he started rowing and was a real inspiration to listen to.  He has proven that you can come from behind and still be a winner!

Joe had his gold medal with him.

He very kindly let everyone in the school hold it!

The gold medal was quite big...

...and we were surprised at how heavy it was.  Joe said it weighed about half a kilo.

It was fantastic to get the opportunity to meet a real Kiwi Gold Medalist!

Thank you Mrs Rout for organising the visit (and for the extra photos!)
