Flag Pole

Our school has been gifted this flag pole by Mrs Cummings.
Now we are able to fly the New Zealand flag each day!

World Educator's Day

To celebrate this, all of the teachers received a special award at assembly this week!!

My award was for running the Milk in Schools programme.
A huge thanks to Mrs Clementson for organising this!

Principal's Award

Congratulations to Lee for receiving the Principal's Award at assembly.

Welcome to School

Emily received her Welcome to School certificate at assembly.

H.E.A.R.T. awards

Congratulations Noah, Leroy and Sam for showing H.E.A.R.T. at assembly.

Tinikling

This is the latest craze from the Phillipines and Mrs Rout has taught the Room 12 children how to do it.  We watched these clever kids after assembly.

Zirka Circus

At assembly, we were treated to a short performance by three young boys from the Zirka Circus. They were carrying drums with them, which we soon found out were not instruments, but barrels for them to use in their routine. They used them to manipulate their bodies to fit inside.  It was quite thrilling to watch.  These boys start training at the age of 5 and spend around 25 hours a week practising.  Schoolwork fits around their busy training and performing.  I did notice that they were not enthusiastic while performing though....

School reunion

This is the amazing cake that was made to celebrate the 75th reunion of Westport South School.  After it was cut, we all had a piece and it was delicious!

Rockets!

Yesterday morning we watched some scientists from Buller High School as they pumped air into rockets and then released them!  We helped with the countdown to launch off.  The rockets went a really long way out on to the school field.  We were all very impressed!
