Operation Southern Katipo revisited
What an amazing morning we had. Our intention was to go to the Carters Beach Playground, have a play, and a look at some of the vehicles as part of our transport unit. We knew there would be strict security and it would be hard to see anything close up. However as we were preparing to leave, I was approached by an army officer who offered us a tour inside the barrier! From there, we were taken over to the tanks where we were able to go inside and climb on them! A once in a lifetime opportunity for many of us! The soldiers were just wonderful and interacted with us so well. Too many photos to choose from so I'm just going to post them all...

Southern Katipo
What a surprise we got on the way back from swimming! The children were all extremely disappointed that there were no soldiers guarding the Solid Energy Centre but look what we saw in Mill Street! Six army tanks were lined up with groups of soldiers outside them. It was very exciting and our bus driver Mr Cunningham, crawled the bus past so we could have a really good look! The children were thrilled that all the soldiers waved to them and they looked happy to see us. Operation Southern Katipo has been very exciting for us all!
